Jesus Gets Baptized

John and Jesus were cousins.

John was six months older than Jesus.

God sent His Spirit to John.

Because of that, John was able to work for God.

John's work was to baptize people.

John would say to everyone, "Do what is right from now on. If you have sinned, tell God you are sorry and sin no more."

After the people had promised to do what was right, John would baptize them in the River Jordan.

He baptized many people.

John would preach also.

He would speak of the coming of a great deliverer.

The people thought John was the great deliverer.

When people asked him, he said, "One mightier than I will come. I am not even fit to carry his sandals."

One day, John was busy baptizing people.

He baptized the whole day.

That evening after everyone had received their baptism, who should come to him?

Jesus!

Jesus asked John to baptize him.

John said to Jesus, " No, it is I that need to be baptized by you."

Jesus said to John, "Please baptize me. It is right."

John agreed.

As he was baptizing Jesus, something very special happened.

The heavens opened widely.

The spirit of God came.

The spirit was in the form of a dove.

The dove landed on Jesus.

Then a voice was heard.

The voice was that of God.

God said, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."
